Privacy Policy and Terms

Parquet Fox (parquetfox.com) is built for privacy-conscious data inspection, querying, and editing. Your file data is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to our servers. This document explains how Parquet Fox handles information and the terms that apply when you use the service.

Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for Parquet Fox

Privacy Policy

Scope

This privacy policy governs information collected through parquetfox.com. Parquet Fox provides in-browser tools to view, query, edit, and export supported data files, including Parquet, CSV, and JSON. Parquet files up to 500 MB and CSV or JSON files up to 2 GB per upload (compressed file size on disk) are supported; actual browser memory use depends on format and data content and is processed locally in your tab. The service runs SQL queries locally using DuckDB WASM and does not require an account.

Operator and contact

The controller determines the purposes and means of processing for website, feedback, and analytics data described in this policy. File contents you process in the browser are not received by the controller.

Data we process

The following describes personal data the controller may process when you use parquetfox.com. Processors (Vercel, Supabase) are listed under Information sharing.

Category Examples Purpose Legal basis (EU/EEA) Retention
Website analytics Page views, referrers, device/browser type, performance metrics (via Vercel) Operate and improve the site Legitimate interests Per Vercel policies and operational need
API request logs HTTP method, path, status, duration, request ID Security, troubleshooting Legitimate interests As long as reasonably needed
Feedback Description, optional steps to reproduce, optional email, page URL, user agent, app version, privacy-safe client metadata, salted IP hash (ip_hash), internal triage status Support and product improvement Consent / legitimate interests Until resolved, then reasonable archive
File and query data File contents, SQL text, query results Not collected by the controller n/a

File and query data (client-side)

Your file contents, SQL queries, and query results are processed entirely in your browser. Parquet Fox does not upload, store, or receive your data files, SQL text, or query results on its servers.

This applies to Parquet Fox’s local processing workflows. Parquet Fox does not control data handling by your browser, browser extensions, device software, network intermediaries, or third-party file hosts.

When you open a file from your device, Parquet Fox reads it locally and loads it into an in-browser query engine. When you run SQL, the query executes on your device. When you export results, the download is generated in your browser.

If you choose to save a file for later use, Parquet Fox stores it in your browser’s Origin Private File System (OPFS) on your device. SQL session history for saved files may be stored alongside saved files as local sidecar data. This data remains on your device until you delete it through Parquet Fox or clear your browser’s site data for parquetfox.com.

Clearing site data, using private browsing without persistence, or uninstalling your browser may remove locally saved files, SQL history, preferences, and license keys stored on your device.

Opening files from URLs

Parquet Fox lets you open files from public or presigned HTTPS URLs. Your browser fetches those URLs directly from the host you specify. Parquet Fox does not proxy, download, or store those files on its servers.

You are responsible for the URL you provide, the rights to access that data, any terms imposed by the file host, and whether the host permits browser access (including CORS configuration). Network errors, access denials, and CORS blocks occur between your browser and the third-party host.

User responsibility for data

You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights, permissions, lawful basis, and authority to open, process, query, store, export, or otherwise use any data through Parquet Fox. You must not process personal data, confidential business data, regulated data, third-party data, or sensitive data unless you are legally authorized to do so and have implemented appropriate safeguards on your side.

Parquet Fox is designed so that your file data stays on your device. That design does not remove your obligations under applicable privacy, employment, contractual, sector-specific, or confidentiality requirements.

Information we collect on our servers

Parquet Fox collects limited information on its servers to operate the website and accept voluntary feedback. Paid access is not currently offered. Server-side collection does not include your file contents, SQL text, or query results.

Website analytics and performance

Parquet Fox uses Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to understand aggregated site usage and performance. These services may collect information such as page views, referrers, device type, browser, and performance metrics.

Analytics technologies are used only for service operation, performance monitoring, and aggregated usage insights.

Vercel may use cookies or similar technologies as described in Vercel’s privacy policy. IP addresses may be processed by Vercel as part of hosting and analytics; we do not use analytics for individual profiling. Data may be processed outside the EU by Vercel (a US-based processor); see Vercel’s terms for safeguards.

Parquet Fox does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking technologies. Browser storage used by the application is limited to functionality such as preferences and locally saved files. Where third-party services are used, their own privacy practices may apply.

API request logs

Requests to Parquet Fox API routes (for example, feedback submission) are logged for operations, troubleshooting, and security. Logs may include request timestamps, HTTP method, API path, response status, request duration, and a request identifier. Logs are not intended to include file contents or SQL text. Logs are retained only as long as reasonably needed for operation, security, and troubleshooting.

Paid access is not currently offered on parquetfox.com. If we introduce paid features in the future, we may use a third-party payment and license provider. In that case:

  • Purchases and subscriptions would be processed by that provider; Parquet Fox would not store payment card details.
  • If license keys are used, your browser may send a key to Parquet Fox’s API for validation; limited account metadata (such as email or license status) may be returned for display.
  • License keys, if used, would be stored in your browser’s local storage on your device.
  • We may receive webhook or API events from the provider about purchase, renewal, or revocation status.

We will update this policy to name the provider and describe specific data flows before paid access is offered.

Feedback

Parquet Fox provides a feedback form at /feedback where you may voluntarily submit bug reports, suggestions, or other comments. When you submit feedback, we may collect:

  • Your description (required) and optional steps to reproduce
  • An optional email address if you choose to provide one
  • The page URL you submitted from
  • Your browser user agent and the application version
  • Privacy-safe workspace metadata (for example, workspace phase, file format, row count, theme, and whether OPFS is supported). Feedback metadata does not include file contents, SQL text, OPFS file paths, or license keys.
  • A salted hash of your IP address (ip_hash), not the raw IP — used only for rate limiting and abuse prevention (currently up to three submissions per IP per 24 hours), retained with the feedback row, and not used for individual profiling or marketing
  • An internal operator-managed status (for example, new, triaged, resolved, archived) for support triage — you do not submit or edit status through the form

Feedback is stored in a server-side database (Supabase Postgres) accessible only to the operator, not through a public data API.

Client-side storage

Parquet Fox uses browser-based storage on your device:

Storage What it holds
localStorage Theme preference, license key (if activated when paid access is offered)
OPFS Saved data files, SQL history sidecars for saved files

You can clear this data through your browser settings or by removing saved files within Parquet Fox. Doing so may remove stored preferences, license keys, saved files, and SQL history from your device.

Third-party software

Parquet Fox uses third-party software components, including DuckDB WASM (MIT License), browser libraries, and hosting infrastructure. Those components are subject to their own licenses and terms. Use of parquetfox.com does not grant you rights to third-party trademarks or intellectual property.

Information sharing

We do not sell your personal information or file data. We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate Parquet Fox, including:

  • Vercel — website hosting, analytics, and performance monitoring
  • Supabase — server-side database for feedback submissions (no browser data API access)

If we offer paid access in the future, we may share limited information with a third-party payment and license provider; we will update this policy before doing so.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect Parquet Fox and its users, to prevent abuse, to enforce our policies, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets.

Security

We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information collected through parquetfox.com. Parquet Fox’s client-side processing model means your file data is not transmitted to our servers for processing, which reduces server-side exposure of file contents.

No online service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for securing your device, browser, and any license keys stored locally.

For visitors from the EU/EEA, the data controller named above may process personal data under one or more legal bases, including performance of a contract, legitimate interests in operating, improving, securing, and protecting the service, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where consent is required. See Data we process for categories and bases.

For data contained in files you process locally, you are responsible for ensuring a valid lawful basis and that your use of Parquet Fox complies with applicable privacy, data protection, employment, contractual, sector-specific, and confidentiality requirements.

Your privacy rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or request portability of personal data we process about you. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise privacy rights, contact leonowiczwebsolutions@gmail.com.

Children

Parquet Fox is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact leonowiczwebsolutions@gmail.com.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.

Remote URLs and third-party content

When you provide a URL to open a file, you represent that you have the right to access that data and that your use complies with applicable law and the host’s terms. Parquet Fox is not responsible for third-party hosts, CORS configuration, network failures, or access restrictions imposed by the file source.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Parquet Fox is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, security, accuracy, or error-free operation.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Parquet Fox shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or business-related damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, loss of business, or unauthorized access resulting from data you process locally, exposed license keys, third-party URL sources, or misuse of the service.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded.

Indemnity

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Sebastian Leonowicz Web Solutions harmless from claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from data you process through the service, your license keys, your misuse of the service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of applicable law or third-party rights.

Suspension

We may suspend or terminate your access to parquetfox.com or its APIs if we reasonably believe your use creates legal, security, privacy, payment, abuse, operational, or service integrity risk, or if you violate these Terms. Suspension of website access does not delete data stored locally on your device.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of Parquet Fox after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
